Our Name:

In Italian, “di a mano” means “of hand” and “di amano” means “of love.” Because these phrases truly reflect what we represent, we have put the two together to develop diAmano Chocolate, “by hand with love.”

We place an incredible amount of effort towards ensuring that each piece of specialty chocolate we create will be visually elegant and amongst the best you’ve ever tasted.

A Brief History of Chocolate – Revered & Coveted Throughout the Ages

Chocolate is believed to have been discovered by the Mayans over 2000 years ago. The word chocolate is derived from the Aztec word “xocoatl” which was used to describe an ancient drink made from the cacao bean and used in rituals and celebrations.

Both the Mayan and the Aztec cultures believed the cacao bean had magical and divine properties. Cacao was used in their most sacred of rituals involving birth, death and marriage. Indeed, the Latin name for the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao, means “food of the gods.”

Sweetened chocolate was not discovered until Europeans set out for the Americas and tasted the native drink. Europeans at first did not like the bitter cacao drink but once they discovered how to sweeten it with honey or sugar cane it exploded in popularity.

By the 17th century sweetened chocolate was a special treat only accessible to the privileged class and it was believed to have nutritional, medicinal and even aphrodisiac properties.

It wasn’t until the mid 1800′s that trial and error led to the origins of solid chocolate as we know it today.

Now, of course, this amazing product is enjoyed worldwide and chocolate as we know it is a product that enjoys enormous popularity.
